| Patrol |
Patrol's mission is to provide prompt, courteous service, and protection to the citizens of Edinburg 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They're the most visible officers in the police department, since they're out in public for most of the day every day. They direct traffic, investigate accidents, write traffic related tickets, and respond to calls for help. When a crime takes place, a patrol officer may be first on the scene. |
| Criminal Investigations |
Edinburg investigators generally specialize in areas such as major crimes, property crimes, personal crimes, juvenile and sex crimes, and white collar crimes. Depending on their assignment, Investigators carry a continuous "case load". Criminal offenses which require follow-ups are assigned to Investigators. They interview witnesses and suspects, consult with experts such as the coroner or forensics investigators, and testify to their findings in court. Investigators often serve as the police department’s liaison with other law enforcement agencies. |
| Traffic Investigations (TCIU) |
The Edinburg Police Department's Traffic Crash Investigation Unit (TCIU) is a part of the Criminal Investigation Division. TCIU officers are trained in the investigation of intoxication offenses when it relates to driving on our city's roadways. TCIU officers are tasked with reviewing all traffic related arrests and arraigning said subjects who were arrested. TCIU officers are specially trained investigators in traffic accident investigation. TCIU officers are called to the scene of all serious and fatal vehicle traffic accidents. Officers reconstruct the scene of a traffic accident to determine how the accident occurred. |
| K9 Unit |
Edinburg police dog handlers are law enforcement officers that work with canine counterparts. They patrol the streets, apprehend criminals, and handle their dogs as the specially trained canines perform tasks humans can't, such as detecting drugs and other illegal substances. |
| Crime Scene Unit |
Crime Scene Investigators are responsible for the initial evaluation of the scene. Most of their work is comprised of taking photographs of the crime scene, forensic examination, fingerprinting and the collection of evidence such as fibers, hair, blood, and paint samples. |
| Motorcycle |
The Edinburg Police Department Motorcycle Unit is comprised of three officers. They specialize in the enforcement of traffic related violations and assist in various other aspects. |
| SWAT |
Edinburg SWAT team is comprised of highly trained officers who are called in when an incident presents significant risk to other law enforcement officers or the public. These elite professionals use their advanced training in weapons, teamwork and strategy to resolve crises. When not responding to crises, SWAT officers perform more routine duties. |
| COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) |
Edinburg Community Oriented Policing Division emphasizes proactive problem solving in a systematic and routine fashion. Rather than responding to crime only after it occurs, community policing proactively develops solutions to the immediate underlying conditions contributing to public safety problems. Developing a partnership with Edinburg police and our community to identify, reduce, eliminate and prevent problems that impact community safety and order. |
| Mental Health Unit |
To lead public health and provide services to the citizens of Edinburg with diligent efforts that promote mental health, prevent substance misuse, and to foster recovery while ensuring equitable access and better outcomes. Our Mental Health Officers along with Tropical Texas Qualified Mental Health Professionals will co-respond to calls for service to individuals who are in crisis, and provide a mental health assessment. Edinburg CRU will conduct follow-ups on a regular basis making sure consumers are up to date with their medications, and Doctor Visits. We will strive to show the consumer and their loved ones we are dedicated to their recovery. |
