Edinburg, TX—The Edinburg Police Department is planning to launch the Dog Walker Watch Program officially on Friday, May 17. To celebrate this milestone, an event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dog Park, located at Sgt. Jacob de La Garza North Park, 1059 Cullen Street.

The Dog Walker Watch Program aims to harness the power of community involvement by enlisting pet owners as additional eyes and ears for law enforcement. With dozens, if not hundreds, of neighbors, walking their dogs throughout the community at various times of the day, the program seeks to empower them to assist local law enforcement by observing and reporting any suspicious activity they may encounter while out with their furry companions.

"All pet owners are invited to attend and bring their furry friends for the Dog Walker Watch Program Kickoff," Chief Jaime Ayala said. "This event is not only an opportunity to introduce the community to the program but also to foster a stronger partnership between our police officers and residents."

The event will feature various pet vendors, including groomers, veterinarians, and local animal shelters. Attendees can also look forward to complimentary 'pup cups,' dog treats, dog toys, and more for their pets to enjoy. Additionally, informational resources will be provided to educate neighbors on how they can effectively observe and report suspicious activity while out walking their dogs.

The Dog Walker Watch Program emphasizes the importance of community engagement and collaboration in ensuring the safety and security of neighborhoods. By encouraging pet owners to be vigilant while out with their dogs, the program aims to create a safer environment for all to live, work and play.
