Groundbreaking ceremony to be held Wednesday, March 27
Edinburg, TX - To limit the impact of a major storm event on the community, the City of Edinburg continues to prioritize projects that will work to alleviate flooding in the area. Staff will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Brennaaleen Cedar Project, another key component in the city’s efforts, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10 a.m.
Phase II of the project will include the excavation of a regional detention pond and the installation of storm infrastructure that will benefit the Brennaaleen, Cedar, and Greenbriar subdivisions. Brennaaleen will provide detention volume and increase drainage conveyance capacity within the storm sewer system.
In Phase I, city staff acquired a 2.53-acre tract for the regional detention pond with a storage volume of 18,860 cubic yards (11.69 ac-ft). The 8-foot-deep detention pond will service approximately 34 acres and indirectly benefit an additional 91 acres. In addition, approximately 2700 linear feet of storm pipe will be installed.
Residents and members of the media are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at 1200 S. Sugar Road to learn more about the Brennaaleen Cedar Project.
