Edinburg City Council Votes to reduce proposed tax rate for fiscal year 2023-2024

Lowest proposed tax rate for Edinburg in more than two decades

Edinburg, TX - The Edinburg City Council announced its unanimous decision to lower the proposed tax rate for the City of Edinburg for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024. The proposed rate has been reduced from 64 cents to 63 cents per $100 valuation, reflecting the Council's commitment to responsible fiscal management and addressing the needs of the community. This is the lowest proposed tax rate for Edinburg since 1991.

This decision was reached following extensive deliberation and analysis of the city's budget requirements and the desire to provide relief to Edinburg residents and businesses amidst economic challenges. The proposed tax decrease aims to maintain essential services while ensuring that Edinburg remains an attractive place to live, work, and invest.

Public Hearings for Valuable Community Input
To further engage the Edinburg community in this significant decision, the City Council will hold a public hearing to gather feedback on the proposed tax decrease. The hearing will provide an opportunity for residents, business owners, and stakeholders to express their thoughts and concerns regarding the tax rate adjustment.

The public hearing is scheduled as follows:

  1. Date: September 19, 2023 Time: 6 p.m. Location: Edinburg City Hall, Council Chambers, 415 W. University Dr.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the hearing during the Edinburg City Council meeting and share their perspectives, as their input will be invaluable in shaping the final decision regarding the proposed tax rate.
