Edinburg, TX - The City of Edinburg is proud to announce the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II of the Alberta Road Reconstruction Project, marking yet another significant milestone in the city's commitment to enhancing its road infrastructure. As part of its ongoing efforts to prioritize regular road improvements and ensure safer and more efficient transportation for its residents, the City of Edinburg will host the groundbreaking on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Alfonso Ramirez Elementary. The school is conveniently located at 1700 W. Alberta Road, representing a central point within the project's scope.

The reconstruction project will impact the area west of city limits to the east of McColl Road and from Jackson Road to I-69C. Improvements will be made to storm sewers, drainage structures, curbs, and gutters and will include street grading. Wheelchair ramps, sidewalks, pavement parking, signage, and traffic controls and signals are all additions that residents will notice upon the project’s completion. A total of 18,990 feet of sidewalks with ADA ramps will be installed on both sides of the street in an effort to improve the area’s walkability and help residents travel safely along Alberta Road.

The majority of Alberta Road is two lanes. Under Phase II, the improved cross-section will feature four lanes total with a curb and gutter system and underground storm concrete pipes to carry stormwater to nearby city ditches and reduce the impact of flooding. Improvements are expected to be completed in four phases within a year, pending any unanticipated delays.

The community and media members are encouraged to attend the groundbreaking ceremony.
