Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Division takes an active approach with contractors and developers to complete construction projects in a timely and environmentally conscious manner according with adopted city codes and ordinances.

Along with the responsibility of reviewing building permit applications the duties of this department include the inspection of buildings, plumbing, electrical and mechanical work, pools, sprinkler systems, repairs and remodeling to any infrastructure to insure that all are up to city codes in both residential and commercial properties. Permits are required for new construction, any remodeling, repairs, additions, demolition, moving as well as for plumbing, electrical and mechanical work that is involved within The City of Edinburg.

Our Environmental Health Division conducts routine inspections of retail food establishments throughout our City jurisdiction to ensure health code compliance. Health and Temporary Health permits are issued to all establishments or any events that operates food services. Additionally they enforce the city’s regulation and removal of junked vehicles, inadequate structures and the mowing of weedy lots.

Building Permits and Inspections
All inspections must be called in at (956) 388 - 8203
AM - Morning Inspections
Need to be requested between 12 noon the previous working day and 4:59 p.m. the previous working day.
PM - Afternoon Inspections
Need to be requested between 8:00 a.m. and 11:59 a.m. the previous working day.

Permits will be required for new construction, any remodeling, repairs, additions, demolition, moving as well as for plumbing, electrical and mechanical work that is involved with in The City of Edinburg.

**Demolition permits are required when demolishing structures.
**Moving permits are required when moving a structure in or out of the city.
