About Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department

The Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department was organized on May 24, 1926 when 33 citizens of Edinburg pledged to serve as volunteer firefighters for their city. Membership in the department has shown continuous growth throughout the years. Since its establishment, a diverse group of men and women have come together to provide Edinburg and its surrounding areas fire protection prompt fire rescue response at no cost.

Any citizen 18 years of age or older, who lives within 5 miles of a fire station and not within another city’s jurisdiction may apply for membership. Those applicants who can satisfactorily pass an investigation committee consisting of the Chief’s Cabinet shall qualify to be voted for membership into the department by the members as a whole.

The Edinburg Firefighters volunteer their services to the Edinburg community. The only exception is a weekday paid staff of 14 people employed to support and augment the volunteer organization. The staff consists of the Chief, Deputy Chief, The Fire & Burn Prevention Office members, a maintenance serviceperson, and 6 firefighters.

The post’s primary mission is to introduce members to the field of fire service. The post shall be organized to help members find their own lifestyle through experience that develop strong character, citizenship, provide training opportunities and improve personal and mental fitness.

Young men and women who have completed 8th grade and are between 14 and 21 years old may apply.
