Edinburg Regional Sanitary Landfill
The City of Edinburg Reserves the right to determine waste acceptability based on State or Federal Waste Screening Regulations.
Brush includes yard trimmings, grass, mulch, trees, leaves and branches

Construction & demolition debris includes but is not limited to lumber, shingles, brick, tile, cement, sheet rock, any debris resulting from the construction, remodeling and/or demolishing of a structure

Appliances includes refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves, bicycles, water heaters, etc.
(see special conditions)
Trash includes household garbage or waste from residential or commercial operations, this may include mattresses, clothes, desks, cabinets, boxes, etc.

Tires includes automobile tires or smaller only

Class II Wastes (see special conditions)
Maquiladora Wastes (see special conditions)
Non-Regulated Asbestos (see special conditions)
Sludges (see special conditions)

Special Conditions:

  • Brush - must be free of any waste material not defined as brush (brush must be clean)
  • Construction & Demolition- concrete or block must not exceed brick sizeTrash must not contain hazardous wastes
  • Appliances- written proof must be provided that refrigerant (CFC) has been properly removed from refrigerators and air conditioners, if no proof is available the compressors must be removed before acceptance
  • Tires- rims must be removed, maximum size must not exceed 11.00 x 22
  • Class II/ Maquiladora Waste- Requires prior authorization, waste profile sheet and manifesting
  • Non-Regulated Asbestos- Requires prior authorization, waste profile sheet and manifesting
  • Dry Sludges- Requires prior authorization, waste profile sheet and manifesting
  • Covered Loads- All loads must be covered or tied down to avoid 15% penalty charge.
Wastes prohibited from disposal at the Edinburg Regional Sanitary Landfill
  • Lead acid storage batteries
  • Used motor vehicle oil and Used-oil filters from internal combustion engines
  • Whole used or scrap tires
  • Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and any other items containing Chlorinated Fluorocarbon (CFC's)
  • Liquid waste as defined in §330.2 of this title (relating to Definitions)
  • Municipal wastewater treatment plant sludges, other types of domestic sewage treatment plant sludges, and water-supply treatment plant sludge's; Unless it is determined to contain "free liquids" as defined by EPA Method 9095 (Paint Filter Test) and have received prior authorization for disposal
  • Regulated hazardous waste as defined in §330.2 of this title (relating to Definitions)
  • Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) wastes, as defined under 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 761, or any material impregnated with these constituents
  • Septic tank pumpings
  • Grease and grit trap wastes
  • Wastes from commercial or industrial wastewater treatment plants; air pollution control facilities tanks, drums, or containers used for shipping or storing any material that has been listed as a hazardous constituent in 40 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 261, Appendix VIII but has not been listed as a commercial chemical product in 40 Code of Federal Regulations §261.33(e) or (f)
  • Incinerator ashLight ballasts and/or small capacitors containing Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) compounds
Wastes may be accepted with prior authorization from the facility
  • Slaughterhouse wastes
  • RACM--Regulated asbestos-containing material as defined in 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 61, as amended, includes: friable asbestos material, Category I Non-friable ACM ; Category II Non-friable ACM
  • Pesticide (insecticide, herbicide, fungicide, or rodenticide) containers
  • Soil contaminated by petroleum products, crude oils, or chemicals
  • Waste from oil, gas, and geothermal activities subject to regulation by the Railroad Commission of Texas
  • Waste generated outside the boundaries of Texas

Applicability of Fees

Fees are applicable to all users of the landfill with exception of City Residents hauling household trash, appliances or brush.
A current water bill is required for confirmation of residency. This exception does not apply to any construction material which shall be charged at gate rates.

Proof of construction being conducted within the city limits of the City of Edinburg must be provided by the contractor or individual performing the services prior to disposal and is subject to verification. Rate is subject to applicable surcharges, disposal fees, local and state taxes, etc.
Non-Contract Outside Haulers
Government entities, waste haulers, contractors, or individuals disposing of waste generated from outside the City of Edinburg shall be charged for the use of city-owned or -maintained landfill as follows:
