Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works coordinates with City staff, elected officials and the public in planning, developing, constructing and maintaining the Streets and Airport infrastructure. The Public Works Administration's goal is to develop and implement a responsible road surface management program in order to provide reliable services to its citizens and visitors. These services include streets and alleys maintenance and/or construction, functional storm water system and drain ditch maintenance, sidewalk and street lighting programs. Additionally, the department additionally procures required right-of-way for proposed improvements and reviews the dedication of appropriate streets and drainage right-of-way for new residential, commercial and industrial developments.

Divisions
The Engineering Division provides efficient, centralized, and cost effective municipal engineering services for the City’s many infrastructure projects for all city departments. Our services include engineering design contract administration, construction administration and observation as well as professional expertise in the planning and design of improvements to new and existing roadways, public water and sanitary sewer facilities.

The Streets Division provides for the care, repair, and maintenance of all City-owned streets, alleys, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drainage structures, traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, school light beacons, traffic signals, traffic control devices, and all pavement markings. The Airport Division, under general supervision by the Director of Public Works, coordinates airport construction projects, negotiates airport leases, ensures the maintenance of the City owned facilities, maintains open communication with numerous State and Federal Agencies.
