EDINBURG AWARDED $683,100 BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

Edinburg, Texas: The City of Edinburg has been awarded a $683,100 grant by the U.S. Department of Energy as part of their Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. This program helps local communities reduce their dependency on energy. It is designed to reduce fossil fuel emissions, reduce energy use, improve energy efficiency in transportation as well as create and retain jobs. Edinburg will utilize this money to replace light fixtures and air condition units at the following facilities:

• City Auditorium-light fixtures
• Activity Center-light fixtures
• Recreation Center-light fixtures and 4 A/C units
• Service Center- light fixtures and 4 A/C units

The City will also install solar power lighting at the Colonia Rodriguez Subdivision, located on the southeast side of town, and on Kuhn Street between 7th Street and 8th Street. Solar power lights will also be installed at Freddy Gonzalez Park and Green Sport Lighting will be installed at the baseball/softball field at Municipal Park.

This grant will help Edinburg continue its commitment to curb global warming through the Cool Cities Program.
