Edinburg Named One of the Best Bang-For-The-Buck Cities by Forbes Magazine

Edinburg, Texas: The Edinburg, McAllen, Mission region is ranked number seven in the country as one of the most desirable areas to live and work. To find the cities that offer the most bang for the buck, Forbes looked at the country’s 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas and how they fare when it comes to affordable housing and foreclosures, minimal time travel to work, unemployment rates, and the potential for job growth. With 7.0 percent, Edinburg claimed the lowest unemployment rate for the month of October in the Rio Grande Valley. Mayor Richard Garcia says, “This means that the City of Edinburg is the one place in the country where we are creating new jobs.” Mayor Garcia attributes the low unemployment rate to the recent jobs created by the new businesses in our city. Only five other Texas areas made the list: El Paso at number 33, San Antonio 39, Austin-Round Rock 45, Dallas-Fort Worth 64 and the Houston-Sugar Land area at number 68. Edinburg City Manager, Ramiro Garza, Jr. says “This ranking reaffirms the resilience of our local economy and the continued positive growth.”
