EDINBURG, TEXAS (March 28, 2018) – Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snider was presented with the Excellence in Service & Leadership Award at the South Texas All Hazards Conference Wednesday morning.

Snider became the first-ever recipient of the award. Accompanying him to accept the award was his wife, Edna.

The award recognizes those who have worked hard and contribute to the advancement of emergency preparedness, response and recovery. Snider was selected for his service to the community, region, and state by exhibiting a high standard of leadership and professionalism.

“I am humbled to be the recipient of this award,” Snider said. “I’d like to thank my wife for letting me do what I do every day, and thank God as well.”

Snider also thanked all first responders, public safety officials, and health officials in the Rio Grande Valley.

“The Rio Grande Valley has stood very strong, and that’s proven that we have the capabilities, people, technology and resources to be a force to provide services to our community,” Snider said. “I dedicate this year to everyone who takes on that challenge.”

He concluded, “Thank you very much. It’s such an honor to receive this award.”

Also in attendance at the conference were Mayor Richard Molina, Mayor Pro Tem David Torres, and Councilmember Gilbert Enriquez.

“Today is a very special day. We were able to witness one of our main leaders in the City of Edinburg receive this award,” Molina said. “This means a lot to us, and we really appreciate everything that Chief Snider does for our City.”
