Edinburg, Texas (April 20, 2017) — Get peddling, Edinburg, and forget your vehicles because you can now find bike share stations throughout the City. The City of Edinburg, The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday morning to officially announce the new program.
In early January, the City Council approved an agreement to join BikeShare Rio Grande Valley, a bike sharing initiative already in use at UTRGV’s Brownsville, Harlingen, and Edinburg campuses.
The City has added four bike stations to support people who want to use a bike instead of a vehicle to get around town.
The program created by UTRGV students and managed by Zagster, Inc. allows people to ride anytime, anywhere, by simply using the Zagster app. First-time users will have to create a new account before they hit the road.
The bikes, already in service, can be returned to any of the bike stations throughout the City. The four new locations are McIntyre Street in front of the Edinburg Fire Department, Freddy Gonzalez Memorial Park, Bicentennial Park on Sprague Street, and by South Middle School on Freddy Gonzalez Drive and 4th Street.
