Edinburg, Texas (March 28, 2017) – The American Red Cross hosted its Heroes Centennial Luncheon Tuesday afternoon at the Edinburg Conference Center where it recognized local first responders. Councilmember Richard Molina welcomed the Red Cross and the members of the United States Border Patrol, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office to the city.
Molina said, “It’s because of people like all of you who are ready to answer the call regardless of the emergency, we can all sleep better at night. On behalf of the City, I thank you greatly for your service and all that you do for our community.”
The Red Cross recognized Agent Annjeri Workman, Agent David Schultz, and Mission Support Assistant Clarissa Contreras from the U.S. Border Patrol; Trooper Marco Castañeda, Trooper Richard Pacheco, and Emergency Manager John O’Valle from the Department of Public Safety; and Sargeant Fernando Tanguma, Deputy Yesenia Treviño, and Senior Detention Officer Tony Garcia from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
All nine were presented with the First Responder Hero Award.
The event was part of the Red Cross Month and served as a kickoff of the centennial celebration of the Red Cross in South Texas.
