The Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department serves an area of approximately 200 square miles in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas (map). The coverage area consists of the City of Edinburg and the surrounding rural areas outside the city limits. The rural areas are part of Hidalgo County Fire District #4 and are served through a contract with Hidalgo County.

All the Edinburg Firefighters volunteer their services to the Edinburg community. The only exception is a paid staff of 8 people employed to support the volunteer organization.
